  • DoAny Free includes 1 team member, so the DoAny column uses Pro, from $25 a month.
  • Stencil’s team fee is flat, so Team costs the same however many people you invite. Its pricing page lists 200 credits a month on Team against Pro’s 100; its FAQ and plans guide describe Team as your credit package plus that fee, so 100 credits at $50.
  • Both take 0% of your sales, and Stencil’s smallest sale is $5. Stripe’s processing fees apply on both and are left out.
  • Plan prices at their smallest size: a bigger credit package costs more on either, and a credit buys different work on each. Both bill monthly.
  • Stencil’s pricing page says products with significant traffic, storage or email volume may incur extra usage costs. DoAny’s hosting is included and not metered.

How we calculated this
  1. Two people: DoAny Free includes 1 team member and Pro unlimited team members; inviting anyone on Stencil needs Team.
  2. DoAny Pro: $25 × 12 = $300.
  3. Stencil Team: ($25 credit package + $25 team fee) × 12 = $600.
  4. Difference: $600 − $300 = $300, in DoAny’s favour.

Where DoAny is different

Four differences that change the choice

It works on getting customers, not only the app

DoAny researches your market before building, then Annie posts daily, finds prospects and follows up, so a founder without an audience isn’t left to market alone. See what that looks like in DoAny.

It sells more than subscriptions

Stencil’s own guide says it “only builds subscription software”. One-off guest sales work, but a shop or a bookings business sits outside its focus. Stencil guide DoAny’s checkout handles one-off products, bookings, tickets and credit packs as well as subscriptions.

Payments you can test and see

In DoAny’s preview, a Stripe decline test card shows how the error reads to a customer, and nothing is charged. Stencil has no test mode, so a rehearsal is a real purchase on your own card, and Stripe keeps its processing fee on a refund: about 45¢ on Stencil’s $5 minimum sale. Stripe refunds

Once you sell, DoAny’s Payments panel opens your own Stripe Express dashboard for refunds and disputes; Stencil’s per-app account has no dashboard login, and its refund button returns the most recent payment in full. Stencil payments guide

A teammate costs less to add

DoAny Pro includes unlimited team members for $25 a month. Stencil needs Team, from $50, before you can invite anyone: $25 a month more for a founder with one assistant. Team does bring more credits (200 a month on its pricing page). Stencil pricing

Stencil’s edge

Where Stencil is stronger

These are real advantages, and for a creator selling a membership to an audience they already have, they can settle the choice.

Deeper subscription billing

Free trials of 1–90 days, with an email when the trial starts and another three days before it ends. Coupons with plan limits, expiry dates and redemption caps, monthly and annual prices with a toggle, subscribers switching plan or period themselves, and pay-first signup where the purchase creates the account. The checkout on the sites DoAny builds has no coupons or free trials at the moment. Stencil features

AI and scheduled jobs inside your app

Stencil pays for the Claude and OpenAI models your app uses, and its plans guide says your running app costs no credits however busy it gets; on DoAny, AI features your customers use draw on your credits. Plans and credits Apps can also run scheduled jobs on a five-minute tick and send up to 1,000 emails a day from your own domain. Stencil automation

Built-in analytics and ad tracking

Every published app gets visitor counts, a funnel from visit to signup to return, and a campaign breakdown from tagged links, with nothing to set up. A Meta Pixel plus a Conversions API token reports signups from your Facebook and Instagram ads. DoAny has no visitor analytics dashboard. Stencil analytics

Connectors for your members

Members can connect Notion, Dropbox, GitHub and Microsoft 365 tools out of the box. DoAny has no connector marketplace; Annie writes a backend function with your API key instead. Connectors

Release controls

Roll back to an earlier version, publish at a time you pick, and take the app offline without deleting pages, data or drafts. DoAny saves every version but has no one-click rollback. Publishing

A bigger free allowance

10 credits a day with no monthly cap, the first five builds free, and failed builds not charged. DoAny Free gives 5 a day, capped at 30 a month. Credits are different units across products, but the gap is real. Plans and credits

Privacy and notice, in writing

Stencil’s Terms and Privacy Policy say it never trains on your prompts, content or apps, and its agreements prohibit its AI providers from training on your inputs or outputs. Price changes and material Terms changes get 30 days’ notice, and if Stencil ends your account it promises “a way to export your work”. DoAny doesn’t train AI models on your data either; Stencil’s edge is that its promise binds its AI providers by contract. Stencil privacy · Stencil Terms

People, and a launch program

Stencil promises “engineers, designers and operators” who pick up when you need them. Its accelerator takes 10 builders a cohort for 12 weeks, with a $10K launch budget each and no equity taken. DoAny support is email and in-app chat. Stencil homepage · Accelerator

If a course platform, a community tool or a code-first builder fits better than either, our Stencil alternatives shortlist prices Kajabi, Skool, Base44 and Lovable side by side. Every matchup we cover is on the compare page.

Stripe’s other fees are left out: international cards, currency conversion, and Stripe Billing’s 0.7% of subscription volume, which Stripe may add on any Stripe-based platform. Both Free plans can sell: DoAny Free can go live and take real card payments, and Stencil’s pricing page lists payments on every plan.

Traffic is the last variable. DoAny’s hosting is included and not metered: keeping the site, database, files and functions online never uses credits. Stencil’s pricing page says products that reach “significant traffic, storage, email volume” may incur extra usage costs, which it will show you first. Stencil pricing

Four places Stencil’s pages disagree

  • What credits pay for. The pricing FAQ says they cover “building your product, running it, and powering its AI features”. The plans guide says one thing spends credits: every round of chat.
  • Top-ups. The pricing page says “you can top up anytime”. The plans guide says “There’s no one-off top-up”.
  • Team credits. The pricing page shows Team at $50 with 200 monthly credits (1,000 during the launch bonus). The Stencil FAQ calls Team your credit package plus a flat $25-a-month fee, and the plans guide says the smallest package is 100 credits at $25.
  • Dunning. The pricing page lists “Dunning” on every plan. The payments guide says Stripe retries a failed charge on its own schedule, but access closes at once with no grace period, and Stencil emails neither you nor the subscriber.

Our cost example uses only plan prices, which all of Stencil’s pages agree on, and Stripe’s published card rate.

The reason to pick DoAny

Getting customers: what you’ll see in DoAny

For a founder starting without an audience, this is the work DoAny does on top of the product, in the order you meet it.

  1. Research before you build

Annie researches your idea and your market first, so you learn whether it holds up before anything ships. DoAny homepage

  2. Turn on SEO & AEO

One switch adds per-page titles and descriptions, Open Graph tags, JSON-LD, a sitemap, robots.txt and an llms.txt, and prerenders pages so crawlers read real content. DoAny submits the sitemap to Google Search Console for you. The checklist shows what’s left; “Fix with AI” hands each fix to Annie.

  3. Remake an ad that already works

The Social page shows ads already running in your market. Pick one and Annie remakes it for your brand as a 5–20 second video. Before the paid render, an approval card shows the estimated credit cost: “Start render” or “Request changes”. You download the finished video.

  4. Daily posting, outreach and answers

Annie posts every day in the feeds and communities your buyers already trust, finds prospects and follows up, runs your CRM and answers customers around the clock. New recurring jobs start only after you approve them on a card, and spending stops at the credits you bought. How DoAny gets you found

Stencil server-renders your pages; its SEO guide calls the rest “the handful of things worth doing yourself”. Stencil SEO guide

The flow that matters most here

Taking your first payment: what you’ll see in DoAny

Payments are where the two products differ most, so here is the DoAny flow step by step, then the Stencil fine print. DoAny payments docs

  1. Ask for checkout

Tell Annie what you sell. Before anything changes, an approval card asks “Set up payments” or “Not now”. Stripe asks you for nothing yet.

  2. Annie wires up checkout

Annie adds your products and prices and wires up checkout through DoAny’s backend, with Stripe’s checkout embedded in your own page. You set up no API keys or webhooks, and one-off purchases work as guest checkout, without an account.

  3. Test in the preview

The preview takes Stripe test cards straight away: 4242 4242 4242 4242 succeeds, 4000 0000 0000 0002 is declined and 4000 0025 0000 3155 asks for an extra verification step. Your published site tells shoppers the shop isn’t open yet.

  4. Press Go live

In the Payments panel, choose Go live, pick your country and complete Stripe’s own verification. Sole traders can sell; you don’t need a registered company. Live payments work for businesses in 42 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, the UAE and every EU country.

  5. Run it from your own Stripe dashboard

Orders and payouts show in DoAny’s Payments panel; refunds and disputes are handled in your Stripe Express dashboard, opened from that panel. Stripe pays out to your bank on its normal schedule. DoAny never holds your money and adds no delay.

Stencil’s payment fine print

  • Once a single order has settled or a subscription has billed, the payment account can’t be removed, “not even from our side”.
  • Buyers always see prices in US dollars; multi-currency pricing is “Considering” on the roadmap. Both products take live payments from businesses in 42 countries, but not the same ones (DoAny’s includes the UAE; Stencil’s doesn’t).
  • The draft preview runs on your live data, so sign-ups and orders made there by anyone you share it with are real.

Switching notes

Moving from Stencil to DoAny, in order

Stencil documents no way to move live subscriptions, so plan the move around your members, not your code. Stencil payments guide

  1. Export your data first

In Stencil, Project settings → Build → Data exports the whole database as a JSON archive, sent to you as a link; one export runs at a time. Copy CSV grabs selected rows. If GitHub sync is on, your source is already in a private repository. Stencil data export The code and data go to Annie in step 2. The export, plus the Subscribers tab in Stencil’s payments panel, which lists every subscription, is your member list for step 4: you need each member’s email and renewal date.

  2. Import your code and data into DoAny

Hand Annie the code and database records you exported; DoAny imports them, so you don’t start over. Stencil’s pricing FAQ says “Export everything — code, database, customer list”, but its Lovable guide says “The platform machinery isn’t exportable”, and a full Git-repo download is “Considering” on its roadmap. That machinery moves separately: on DoAny, sign-in, email and checkout run on DoAny’s own backend, members sign in again on your DoAny site, and live subscriptions follow in step 4. Pricing FAQ · Stencil vs Lovable guide · Roadmap

  3. Recreate prices and test checkout

Set up the same prices (weekly, monthly or yearly; checkout on a DoAny site has no trials or coupons yet) and run Stripe’s test cards in the preview until checkout, access and the success page behave. Then press Go live in the Payments panel; the Free plan can take real payments too.

  4. Move members without paying twice

    1. Plan on members re-subscribing: Stencil’s payment account has no Stripe dashboard, and its docs describe no way to move subscriptions.
    2. Give each member a switch date equal to their Stencil renewal date, and cancel their Stencil subscription “At period end” in the Subscribers tab so it doesn’t renew.
    3. Send the new sign-up link a few days before that date, so nobody pays for the same weeks twice and nobody forgets to re-enter a card.
    4. Don’t switch off Enable payments early: that opens every paywalled page (Cancel and paywall rules).
  5. Move the domain

If you connected a domain you own, change its DNS records to the ones DoAny’s Domains panel shows (Pro). If you bought it through Stencil, Stencil holds its DNS settings and documents no transfer-out steps, so ask Stencil support before you start. Who holds the DNS · DoAny domains

  6. Take the Stencil app offline

Once the last paid period ends, take the app offline from its settings; Stencil keeps pages, data and drafts. A payment account that has taken money can only be severed through Stencil support. Taking an app offline · Removing the payment account

Common questions

DoAny vs Stencil FAQ

How much does Stencil cost?

Stencil Free is $0 with 10 credits a day. Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 monthly credits (500 during its launch bonus). Team, which you need to invite collaborators, starts at $50 a month. Billing is monthly, and its plans guide says there’s no one-off top-up. DoAny Free is $0 and can go live and take real card payments, with 0% of your sales (Stripe’s fees apply). DoAny Pro is also $25, with your own domain, unlimited team members and top-ups at $15 per 50 credits.

Does DoAny or Stencil take a cut of my sales?

No. Both take 0% of your sales. On Stencil, Stripe’s processing fee (2.9% + 30¢ on a standard US card, per Stencil’s payments guide) is the only deduction, and the smallest sale is $5. On DoAny, payments land in your own Stripe account and Stripe charges its usual fees there, the same as if you had set Stripe up yourself. DoAny adds nothing on top.

Can I test checkout without paying real money?

On DoAny, yes. The editor preview takes Stripe test cards before you give Stripe any details: 4242 4242 4242 4242 succeeds and 4000 0000 0000 0002 is declined. On Stencil, no. Its payments guide says there are no test cards and suggests putting a cheap plan behind the paywall, buying it yourself, then refunding it.

Does DoAny ask before every action?

No, it asks before the big calls. Turning on payments, paid video renders, new recurring tasks, connecting an outside account, saving an automation and adding code packages each wait on an approval card, and typing “yes” in chat doesn’t count. Spending can’t go past the credits you bought: when they run out, work pauses and nothing is charged to your card.

Can I take my app with me if I leave?

Yes. DoAny lets you export your code and data anytime and sync your code to GitHub. Stencil gives you two-way GitHub sync to a new private repository, a JSON export of the whole database and CSV copies of rows; its own guide says the platform machinery isn’t exportable. Stencil documents no way to move live subscriptions, so plan on members signing up again on the new checkout. Moving to DoAny, hand Annie the exported code and records; DoAny imports them.

Which one is cheaper?

Alone, they cost the same: both Free plans cost $0 and can take real payments, both paid plans start at $25 a month (the plan for your own domain), and both take 0% of your sales. Stripe’s processing fees apply on both. With a teammate, DoAny is cheaper: Pro at $25 includes unlimited team members, while Stencil needs Team from $50, a $300-a-year difference. Stencil’s free plan gives more raw credits (10 a day against 5), and its docs say in-app AI costs no credits.
